WWE SummerSlam 2020 Review

SummerSlam 2020 took place on Sunday 23rd August 2020 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. We get the PPV debut of the Thunderdome so let's take a look and see how it goes.

The match on the Kick Off Show is for the United States Championship as MVP challenges Apollo Crews. MVP goes for the Playmaker but Crews avoids it and hits the Backdrop Powerbomb to get the win. The match was ok.

Winner: Apollo Crews (0 for 1)

The first match of the show is for the Smackdown Women's Championship as Asuka challenges Bayley. The end comes when Asuka goes for the hip attack but hits Sasha Banks instead. Bayley then rolls up Asuka to get the win. Afterwards, Sasha and Bayley continue to beat up Asuka. The match was quite good and I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out when Asuka faces Sasha Banks later on. 

Winner: Bayley (0 for 2)

The next match is for the RAW Tag Team Championship as Andrade and Angel Garza challenge The Street Profits. During the match, Zelina Vega goes up to the apron to argue with the referee and gets accidentally knocked off by Montez Ford. When Andrade goes to check on her, he misses the chance to get tagged in by Garza. The Street Profits take advantage and hit a spine buster followed by a From the Heavens to get the win and retain the Titles. I quite enjoyed the match and it looks like they're teasing a break up between Andrade and Garza. I hope they don't do that as I think they work well together. 

Winners: The Street Profits (1 for 3)

The following match is one that I was quite looking forward to seeing; Mandy Rose taking on Sonya Deville in a No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE Match.  After using a couple of steel chairs and a table, Rose hits an Implant Buster followed by a running knee to get the win. The match wasn't as good as it could have been as I feel that they didn't really take advantage of the no disqualification stipulation. I'm gutted that Deville lost as I feel that she has improved a lot recently. However, she has to deal with a court case involving someone stalking her. So, hopefully, that will be resolved soon and she can come back and continue to improve.

Winner: Mandy Rose (2 for 4)

Next is "The Monday Night Messiah" Seth Rollins taking on Dominik Mysterio in a Street Fight. During the match, Dominik's mum comes out and Rey Mysterio goes over to her. Rollins' lackey Murphy starts attacking Dominik, forcing Mysterio to get involved and the match degenerates into a cluster fuck. In the end, Dominik goes for a  frog splash but Rollins gets his knees up. Rollins then hits the Blackout to get the win. I thought the match was good. However, I do question the placement of the match in the show. We had 2 no disqualification matches in a row and I feel that limited the women's match beforehand. As for Dominik, considering that this was first singles match on the second biggest show of the year, I thought he did a good job. 

Winner: Seth Rollins (3 for 5)

We now get Asuka's second match of the night as she challenges Sasha Banks for the RAW Women's Championship. Sasha focuses on the knee that she injured earlier then goes to try to get Asuka to submit to the Banks Statement. However, Asuka manages to get Sasha to submit to the Asuka Lock to get the win. I thought this was a pretty good match.

Winner: Asuka (3 for 6)

The penultimate match is for the WWE Championship as Randy Orton challenges Drew McIntyre. During the match, both guys get cut slightly: McIntyre from an eye gouge not seen by the referee; and Orton from a Future Shock DDT. McIntyre goes for the Claymore Kick but misses. When Orton goes for a RKO, McIntyre manages to reverse it into a backslide and get the win...? Erm, ok. The match was good although the ending seemed to be underwhelming.

Winner: Drew McIntyre (4 for 7)

The main event is for the Universal Championship as "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt challenges Braun Strowman in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. The match goes briefly to the Gorilla position then back to the ring. Strowman exposes the wood in the ring but that turned out to be a bad idea as Wyatt hits 2 Sister Abigails onto the wood to get the win. Afterwards, Roman Reigns makes his return, spears both Wyatt and Strowman then proceeds to fuck them both up with a steel chair. In the terms of the match, it was quite good although, considering how much she was featured in the pre match video, that Alexa Bliss wasn't involved in some way. As for the return of Reigns, I'm not a big fan of him but I'm glad he's back.

Winner: Bray Wyatt (5 for 8)

I thought that SummerSlam was a pretty good event. It was good to see fans there, albeit virtually, and it made for a better atmosphere. 

WWE SummerSlam 2020 Preview

 

WWE SummerSlam 2020 will be taking place this evening at the Performance...wait, sorry. It will be at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Some of the matches look interesting so, let's take a look.

MVP's buddies Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley, are barred from ringside but I can see them interfering in some way to help MVP get the win.

I'm quite looking forward to this one. Rollins should win this but I can see Dominik giving him a run for his money.

Asuka is challenging both of the Women's Champions and I feel like she will lose this one.

I've been impressed with Deville's promos over the last few months. However, I feel like she will lose in this one.

WWE SummerSlam 2019 Review

The biggest party of the summer (apparently) SummerSlam took place the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Sunday 11th August. There are some matches that look pretty good so let's take a look.

The first match on the Kick Off Show is for the Cruiserweight Championship as Oney Lorcan challenges Drew Gulak. Gulak doesn't fuck around and gets the advantage early on. gulak goes on to use submission holds and chinlocks to keep Lorcan down. Lorcan hits a blockbuster but Gulak goes on to apply the Gu-Lock, which Lorcan gets out of it by grabbing the bottom rope. They both try to hit their finishers but Gulak takes advantage of the referee dealing with the ring apron to punch Lorcan in the throat then hit a Cyclone Crash to get the win. Whilst not as high flying as we are used to with the cruiserweights, I thought it was an enjoyable match.
Winner: Drew Gulak (1 for 1)

Next is Apollo Crews taking on Buddy Murphy. Murphy hits a running knee as soon as the bell rings and goes on to keep the advantage. After they collide in mid air, Crews recovers and makes a comeback. The fight goes to the outside and when Murphy rolls Crews back in, Rowan appears and beats the fuck out of Murphy, meaning that he wins(?) by disqualification. The match was pretty decent between the two and hopefully Murphy, who I've become a big fan of while he was on 205 Live, will get some more TV matches.
Winner: Buddy Murphy (2 for 2)

After a segment involving Elias and the return of the Rated R Superstar Edge, we get our Kick Off main event: The IIonics challenging Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for the Women's Tag Team Championship. After a fast paced start, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce team up to take out Cross and then wear her down. Eventually, Cross manages to tag in Bliss but The IIonics almost get the win after Bliss gets creamed by a big boot from Kay. In the end, Bliss goes on to hit Twisted Bliss on Royce to get the win. This was a good match but it felt that it was too short.
Winners: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross (3 for 3)

The first match of the show is for the RAW Women's Championship as Natalya challenges "The Man" Becky Lynch in a submission match. Early on, Lynch hits a couple of suplexes and applies an armbar transitioning into a triangle choke. Natalya then swings Lynch into the crowd barrier to get the momentum then focuses on the left knee. After applying a sharpshooter through the ropes, Lynch injures Natalya's arm and the match starts to go back and forth. After both women apply their opponent's finishers on each other, Natalya manages to apply the sharpshooter. Lynch manages to slide half way out of the ring, forcing Natalya to try to reapply the move. Lynch takes advantage of this apply the Dis Arm-Her and eventually get the win by submission. Whilst I was surprised that it opened the show, I thought it was a really good match.
Winner: Becky Lynch (4 for 4)

The next match is Dolph Ziggler taking on Goldberg.  Ziggler hits 2 super kicks but when he goes for a third, he gets killed with a spear. Goldberg then follows that with a Jackhammer to get the win. Whilst I feel sorry for Ziggler, at least the match was short and he didn't get hurt.
Winner: Goldberg (5 for 5)

We now get Ricochet challenging AJ Styles for the United States Championship. Ricochet starts at a fast pace before Styles slows him down and focuses his attack on the left leg. Ricochet manages to start a comeback but the injured knee hampers his offence and Styles takes advantage to apply a calf crusher. When Ricochet has a chance to go for the 630 splash, Karl Gallows and Karl Anderson distract him long enough for Styles to recover. In the end, Styles catches Ricochet coming off the top turnbuckle and hits a Styles Clash to get the win. Afterwards, The OC celebrate by Gallows and Anderson hitting Ricochet with a Magic Killer. I enjoyed this match and I liked the ending.
Winner: AJ Styles (5 for 6)

Next is Ember Moon challenging Bayley  for the Smackdown Women's Championship.  Ember hits a somersault into a forearm followed by a springboard cross body to get the advantage. The match goes back and forth and when Ember goes up to do the Eclipse, Bayley stops her and hits a Belly-to-Bayley off the top rope to get the win. Whilst I'm slightly gutted that Ember lost, but I enjoyed the match.
Winner: Bayley (5 for 7)

We now get Kevin Owens taking on "The Best in the World" Shane McMahon.  McMahon goes some help by getting Elias in as a special guest enforcer. When the bell rings, McMahon keeps on sliding out of the ring, frustrating Owens. Elias provides a distraction, giving McMahon the chance to throw Owens off the apron into the crowd barrier. McMahon then keeps Owens down with punches and knee strikes. Owens hits a pop up powerbomb but Elias distracts the referee. McMahon accidentally hits Elias, giving Owens the chance to hit a Swanton Bomb followed by a Frog splash but Elias pulls out the referee to stop the pin. Owens hits a cannonball into Elias and the referee then goes on to beat the fuck out of Elias with a steel chair. When the referee recovers and puts the steel chair away, Owens takes advantage and hits McMahon with a low blow then a stunner to get the win. The match was pretty decent between the two. I would like to think that Shane would have learnt something but he has carried on on Smackdown as if nothing happened, so I guess not.
Winner: Kevin Owens (6 for 8)

Next is a match that I was quite looking forward to seeing: Charlotte Flair taking on WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. Charlotte goes for the Figure 8 but Trish gets out of it. Charlotte then sends Trish head first into the steel steps to get the advantage. Charlotte gets cocky, taunting Trish. Trish manages to apply the Figure 8 but Charlotte gets to the ropes. Even though Trish comes close after hitting the Stratusfaction, Charlotte hits a big boot then gets Trish to submit to the Figure 8 to get the win. This was a really good match and I really enjoyed it.
Winner: Trish Stratus (6 for 9)

Next is Randy Orton challenging Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship. Orton sends Kingston flying off the top turnbuckle to the crowd barrier then suplexes him off the German announce table. Kingston hits a DDT off the top rope and he starts to make a comeback. Orton hits a hanging DDT then hits a RKO while Kingston was in mid air but Kingston is able to roll out of the ring. Orton follows him and while they were fighting on the outside, they are both counted out. After the bell rings, Kingston beats the fuck out of Orton with a kendo stick then hits him with a Trouble in Paradise. The match was pretty good although I was not happy with it ending in a double count out.
Winner: Double Count Out (6 for 10)

The penultimate match is Finn Balor taking on "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt.  Wyatt is dominant for most of the match hitting moves such as a spine buster. Balor does mount a comeback and goes for the Coup de Grace but Wyatt avoids it and applies a mandible claw. Wyatt covers Balor while he is applying the hold and he gets the win. Afterwards, Wyatt disappears. This was a glorified squash match but it was pretty good. As for Wyatt's new gimmick, I love it, especially the entrance. Hopefully, WWE won't find a way to fuck this up.
Winner: Bray Wyatt (7 for 11)

The main event is for the Universal Championship as Seth Rollins challenge Brock Lesnar. Lensar is dominant at the beginning, focusing on the injured ribs. Rollins avoids a German suplex and hits a Blackout for 2. When Rollins goes for a second, Lesnar hits the F-5 but takes too long to make the cover. Lesnar goes on to hit a ton of German suplexes. The match goes to the outside and Rollins splashes Lesnar through the Spanish announce table. In the end, Lesnar goes for another F-5 but Rollisn lands on his feet and hits a super kick followed by a third Blackout to get the win. I thought the match was really good between the two and I thought that Lesanr will be Champion for longer.
Winner: Seth Rollins (7 for 12)

I thought that SummerSlam was quite good. Some of the matches were enjoyable and we got a couple of nice surprises. Hopefully, we can get WWE going in more of a positive direction.

I'm very surprised that none of the Tag Team Championships are featured on the show. Anyway, with TakeOver on as well, it will take a few days for the review to go up. I hope you all enjoy the show.

WWE Summerslam 2018 Review

WWE Summerslam 2018 took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday 19th August. There are 13(!!) matches on the card, so let's get to it.

There are 3 matches on the Kick Off Show and the first match is the team of Rusev and Lana taking on Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega. A distraction by Vega helps give Almas the advantage over Rusev. Lana eventually gets tagged in. When Lana attacks Almas when he tries to distract the referee, Vega rolls her up and, with leverage on the ropes, gets the win. The match was pretty decent.
Winners: Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega (1 for 1)

Next is Drew Gulak  challenging Cedric Alexander for the Cruiserweight Championship. Gulak tries to apply the Gu-Lock but Alexander gets out of it and hits a dropkick. Gulak hits a knee to the back of the neck to get the advantage. Gulak continues to focus on the neck but Alexander hits a flatliner, giving him a chance to make a comeback. After a lot of roll up attempts, Alexander manages to roll up Gulak to get the win. This match was pretty good but this is only our 2nd match but they have both ended in a roll up. That's slightly worrying.
Winner: Cedric Alexander (1 for 2)

The last match on the Kick Off Show is for the RAW Tag Team Championship as The Revival challenge The B Team. Dash Wilder hits a dragon screw on Bo Dallas then The Revival hits a Shatter Machine on Curtis Axel to get the advantage. Dallas hits a hangman's neckbreaker on Wilder, giving him the chance to tag in Axel. The end comes when Dawson puts Axel in a small package while Wilder is fighting Dallas at the ropes. Wilder bounces Dallas' neck off the ropes who stumbles into Dawson an Axel. This then puts Dawson's back on the mat and The B Team win...? What the fuck was that?! This match was getting good then The B Team win by stupidity?! Plus this is the 3rd match in a row that ended in a roll up. Out of 3 matches!! Oh dear God, the Kick Off Show has really pissed me off and I'm now worried about how many more matches that are going to end in a roll up. On a side note, this is the first time I've heard The B Team's theme tune and it's fucking shite.
Winners: The B Team (1 for 3)

The 1st match on the show is for the Intercontinental Championship as Seth Rollins challenges Dolph Ziggler. After a fast paced, back and forth start to the match, Ziggler attacks the knee then hits a neckbreaker. Rollins catches Ziggler doing a crossbody and suplexes them both out of the ring; and this gives Rollins the chance to start a comeback. Ziggler comes close after reversing a frog splash into a small package. In the end, Dean Ambrose stops Drew McIntyre from interfering with a Dirty Deeds and Rollins hits a superkick followed by a Curb Stomp to get the win. This was a really good match and a lot of fun to watch.
Winner: Seth Rollins (1 for 4)

Next is The New Day challenging The Bludgeon Brothers for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship. Harper and Rowan get the advantage almost immediately, beating down on Xavier Woods. Woods eventually tags in Big E, who hits overhead belly-to-belly suplexes on The Bludgeons. Harper and Rowan hit The Crucifix Bomb but it only gets 2. When it looks like The New Day are going to win it, Rowan starts attacking them with his hammer to get himself disqualified. This match was a lot of fun but the ending ruined it for me.
Winners: The New Day (2 for 5)

We now get Braun Strowman taking on Kevin Owens. If Owens wins, he'll win the Money in the Bank briefcase. Strowman completely fuck up Owens, who does manage to hit a superkick. However, Strowman chokeslams him onto the ramp, then hits a Running Powerslam when he rolls him back into the ring to get the win. Okay, once again,  what the fuck was that?! This was a squash match in WWE's second biggest event of the year and the loser is a former Universal Champion! I don't see the point of this match at all.
Winner: Braun Strowman (2 for 6)

We now get our 1st Women's Championship match as Carmella defends her Smackdown Women's Championship against Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Carmella tries to pit Becky and Charlotte against each other but it doesn't really work. There's a lot of back and forth between the three before Becky breaks up Charlotte putting the Figure 8 on Carmella. Carmella breaks up a couple of pins to save the match before Becky puts her in the Dis-Arm-Her. Charlotte breaks it up by hitting Natural Selection on Becky then pins her to get the win. Afterwards, Becky helps Charlotte celebrate by beating the fuck out of her. The match seemed a little slow at times but it was pretty good. As for Becky's heel turn, the crowd cheered for it because Becky is 100% justified in her actions. Becky worked hard for weeks to get a opportunity. Charlotte returns from injury and basically get added to the match then goes on to win. I can see why Becky went apeshit at Charlotte. They now need to make Becky the worst person on the planet in order to get the crowd to boo her. Maybe, she can get some tips from Tommaso "Fuckface" Ciampa.
Winner: Charlotte Flair (2 for 7)

Next is Samoa Joe  challenging AJ Styles  for the WWE Championship. The match starts at a slow pace before it quickens and Joe kicks Styles' leg out from under him. Styles makes a comeback but Joe comes close to winning after hitting a knee from the top rope. Later on, Styles hits a Styles Clash but Joe kicks out. After Joe goes on the mic to mock Styles' wife, who was standing in the crowd nearby, Styles snaps and fucks Joe up. He then attacks Joe with a steel chair, getting himself disqualified. Afterwards, Styles leaves with his wife and daughter. This match was really good. I'm slightly pissed that it ended in a disqualification. However, this made more sense than the disqualification at the New Day/Bludgeons match.
Winner: Samoa Joe (3 for 8)

After an Elias musical segment that didn't involve any music, we get a match that I think the whole wrestling world was looking forward to: Daniel Bryan taking on Hollywood Miz. Miz hits a cheap shot early on to get the advantage. After a lot of back and forth, Miz bounces Bryan's head off the turnbuckle then hits the Skull Crushing Finale but Bryan kicks out. Later on, Bryan puts on the Yes Lock but Miz gets to the ropes. The match goes to the outside and Bryan kicks Miz into the barrier, where his wife Maryse is sitting. She gives Miz with a foreign object and he hits Bryan with it when Bryan tries a suicide dive. Miz then pins him to get the win. This was an amazing match and definitely the match of the night.
Winner: Hollywood Miz (4 for 9)

Next is Constable Baron Corbin taking on Finn Balor,  who decided to surprise Corbin by turning up in Demon Mode. Corbin is not happy about this and when the bell rings, Balor destroys him. Balor goes on to hit the Coup de Grace to get the win in less than 2 minutes...? Right, this is our 2nd squash match and I would have been ok with it if we didn't have the Strowman/Owens squash earlier.
Winner: Finn Balor (4 for 10)

We now get Jeff Hardy challenging Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship. During the match, they mock each other, and Nakamura hits knees to the back of the head to get the momentum. Hardy gets back into it and hits a Twist of Fate followed by a Swanton Bomb but Nakakmura kicks out. Hardy does another Swanton Bomb but misses and hits the apron. Nakamura then goes on to hit the Kinsasha to get the win. Afterwards, Randy Orton runs (sorry, strolls) in and then turns around and goes to the back...? Ok...anyway, this match was pretty good. It's just the Orton thing made no sense.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura (5 for 11)

The penultimate match is Ronda Rousey challenging Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women's Championship. Bliss plays mind games as she avoids locking up with Rousey. Bliss eventually puts Rousey in a chinlock but she powers out of it and hits a spinning Samoan drop. She goes to destroy Bliss and gets her to submit to an armbar to get the win. Afterwards, Rousey celebrates with Natalya and The Bella Twins for some reason. This match was a bit weird with Rousey asking Bliss if she's ready to get hit with a move. I knew that Rousey would destroy Bliss but I'm now worried that she would destroy everyone on the roster and end up like Chyna when she won the Women's Championship. A quick side note about The Bellas, there were on 3 times on this show. Firstly, in an interview to promote their show and say that they started the Women's Evolution (Bull. Shit); then we saw Brie with Daniel Bryan (which made sense); finishing with them celebrating with Rousey. I do feel sorry for the other women wrestlers who don't have as much of a presence outside of wrestling as much as The Bellas do. It would be nice to feature them a but more.
Winner: Ronda Rousey (6 for 12)

The main event is Roman Reigns having yet another opportunity to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Before the match starts, Braun Strowman comes down and announces that he'll cash in on the winner of the match. When the bell rings, Reigns hits 3 Superman punches and 3 Spears but Lesnar manages to apply the Kimura. Reigns tries another Spear but misses and hits Strowman, who was watching on the outside. Lesnar then hits a F5 on Strowman then attacks him with his own briefcase and a steel chair. When Lesanr goes back into the ring, Reigns hits a Spear and gets the win. The match was short, which was fine, and pretty good.
Winner: Roman Reigns (7 for 13)

Honestly, Summerslam was a fucking weird show. The Kick Off matches weren't great but the show did have some really good matches. However, we also had a musical segment that had no music, a run in that didn't happen, 3 squash matches and 2 DQ finishes. Hopefully, Hell in a Cell won't be as weird.

WWE Summerslam 2018 Preview

The 2nd biggest event of the year, Summerslam, will be taking place this evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. There are 13 matches on the card so it will be a long night. Let's take a look.

Rusev and Lana vs Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega
I think that Aiden English will find some way to fuck over Rusev and Lana, giving Almas and Vega the win.

The Revival vs The B-Team
RAW Tag Team Championship
Finally, The Revival get a Championship opportunity and I feel that they have to win to give the RAW Tag Team division a boost.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Gulak has been one of the best things on 205 Live right now and I believe that its' time for him to be Champion

I don't quite know yet but I'm not bothered about this match. Balor won the last one so I think that Corbin will win this one.

Hopefully, their match will last longer than their last one on Pay-Per-View. I think that Nakamura will win.

A tough one to call here. I think that Carmella will find some way to win and retain.

Rollins has been great to watch this year. Despite that, I feel that Ziggler, with Drew McIntyre's help, will retain.

Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles
WWE Championship
This has a small chance to be the match of the night. A tough one to call but I'm going for Joe to win.

Daniel Bryan vs Hollywood Miz
The match that everyone is looking forward to see. Part of me wishes it was for a Championship but it doesn't need it. I really want Bryan to win. However, I think that they will extend the feud over the autumn meaning that Miz will win.

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar
Universal Championship
Hey look, Brock has decided to grace us with his presence as he faces Roman Reigns for (check notes) the 6th time in over 3 years. Yay? Anyway, Reigns has to win this. Otherwise, there's no point. Keep in mind tho, that this is a rare opportunity for the MITB Briefcase holder to cash in.
Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns

WWE Summerslam 2017 Review

The 30th WWE Summerslam took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday 20th August. There are some matches that look pretty good on paper so will they live up to the hype? Let's take a look.

There were 3 matches on the Kick Off Show and the first was The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan taking on Hollywood Miz and the Miztourage. Curtis Axel stops Jeff Hardy going to the top rope to give his team the  advantage. Eventually, Matt Hardy does get tagged in but in the end, Jason Jordan goes to hit a suplex on Axel but Miz had already blind tagged himself in and hits the Skull Crushing Finale to get the win. The match was ok but considering the talent involved, I was expecting a little better.
Winners: Hollywood Miz and The Miztourage (0 for 1)

The second match was King Neville of the Cruiserweights challenging Akira Tozowa for the Cruiserweight Championship. The match goes back and forth with some exciting offence. In the end, Neville avoids a Senton Splash and hits the Red Arrow to get the win and regain the Championship. This was a good match and whilst I'm happy with Neville winning, it does raise the question of the point of Tozowa being Champion for 6 days. As for Neville, it looks like his next challenger will be Enzo Amore and I'm not looking forward to it as he is nowhere near the Neville level.
Winner: Neville (0 for 2)

After a concert by Elias, we get our Kick Off Show main event: The Usos challenging The New Day for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship. Jimmy Uso counters a jump off the top rope by Xavier Woods with an uppercut to get the advantage. Woods reverses a back suplex to hit Jimmy in the head, giving him the chance to tag in Big E. Both teams come close to winning with double team moves and at one point, Woods applies a submission move. The New Day hit the Up Up Down Down but Jimmy breaks up the pin. In the end, The Usos hit multiple superkicks on Big E followed by a double Uso Splash to get the win. This was another great match between the two teams and it's a shame that it wasn't on the main card. I hope they have another one soon.
Winners: The Usos (0 for 3)

The first match of the event was John Cena taking on Baron Corbin with his new shit music. Cena acts as a cocky dick at the beginning, and Corbin proceeds to beat the crap out of him. He goes on to keep Cena down while slagging off the crowd and the referee. Despite hitting moves such as a Deep Six, Cena gets the win after hitting an AA. I thought the match was pretty good and I start to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Baron Corbin.
Winner: John Cena (1 for 4)

We now get our first Championship match as Natalya challenges Naomi for the Smackdown Women's Championship. Natalya starts by slapping Naomi and goes on to dominate after catapulting her from the apron to the post. Naomi does make a comeback but Natalya gets her in a sharpshooter after avoiding a split-legged moonsault. Naomi is forced to submit and Natalya is the new Champion. This was quite a good match and I was surprised that Natalya won. Hopefully she will have a decent reign, but with Carmella waiting in the shadows to cash in at any time, that might not be possible.
Winner: Natalya (1 for 5)

Next is Big Cass taking on Big Show with Enzo Amore for some reason in a shark cage. Enzo does not shut the fuck up while Big Show is attacking Cass. Eventually Cass focuses on Show's injured hand. Enzo manages to get out of the cage and Cass murders him with a big boot. Cass goes on to hit 2 big boots followed by an Empire Elbow on Show to get the win. The match was ok I suppose. Unfortunately, Cass fucked up his ACL the following day, which will keep him out for at least 8 months. I wonder if they will change his gimmick when he returns.
Winner: Big Cass (2 for 6)

Next is Randy Orton taking on Rusev. Rusev attacks Orton during his entrance. When the referee makes sure Orton is ok, the bell rings and Orton dodges a punch and hits the RKO to get the win. Ok, seriously what the fuck? The match lasted about 10 seconds. I hope that this isn't a burial of Rusev. As for Orton, he can get fuck himself.
Winner: Randy Orton (3 for 7)

Our second Championship match is for the RAW Women's Championship as Sasha Banks challenges Alexa Bliss. After they exchange some blows, Alexa gets the advantage, focusing on the neck. Sasah hits a running knee, giving her the chance to make a comeback. Alexa injures Sasha's shoulder and goes on to hit Twisted Bliss but Sasha kicks out. Sasha then manages to apply the Banks Statement to make Alexa tap out and Sasha Banks is the new RAW Women's Champion. This was an enjoyable contest and I would congratulate Sasha on winning the Championship. However, she lost it back to Alexa 8 days later. Hopefully this isn't the start of the Championship yo-yo-ing like last year. 
Winner: Sasha Banks (4 for 8)

Next is Finn Balor in Demon Mode taking on Bray Wyatt.  Wyatt struggles to cope with Balor before he hits a snap suplex to the outside to get the momentum. Wyatt tries to hit Sister Abigail a couple of times but he's stopped each time. The match goes back and forth before Balor hits the Coup de Grace to get the win. The match was ok and hopefully Balor will get the fuck away from Wyatt in the future.
Winner: Finn Balor (5 for 9)

Now we get a mini Shield reunion as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose team up to challenge Cesaro and Sheamus for the RAW Tag Team Championship. Rollins and Ambrose work together before Cesaro and Sheamus catch Rollins attempting a suicide dive and throw him to the floor. They continue to beat down on Rollins while taking a moment for Cesaro to destroy a beach ball that was being thrown amongst the crowd. Eventually Ambrose gets tagged in and they come close when Ambrose hits a super plex followed by a splash by Rollins on Sheamus, but Cesaro breaks up the pin. Later on, Cesaro does on giant swing on Ambrose followed by a sharpshooter, which he transitioned into a crossface. In the end, Rollins hits Sheamus with his high knee followed by a Dirty Deeds by Amborse and they become the new RAW Tag Team Champions. This was a really good match and hopefully we get a rematch at No Mercy.
Winners: Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (5 for 10)

Next is Kevin Owens challenging AJ Styles for the United States Championship with Shane McMahon as the Special Guest Referee. As usual, the match is an entertaining affair and Owens gets the advantage after hitting a brutal clothesline. Owens goes for the pop up powerbomb but Styles gets out of it to hit a fireman's carry neckbreaker for 2. Styles goes for a 450 splash but Owens pulls Shane on top of him to take the hit. Owesn hits the pop up powerbomb but it only gets 2 and Owens goes ballistic at Shane. Shane gets hurt again when Owens kicks Styles into him and he goes out of the ring. Styles comes close when he hits a Styles Clash and Owens thinks he won after a pop up powerbomb; but Shane waves off the pin when he notices Styles' leg on the rope. Owens and Shane start pushing each other and this gives Styles the chance to hit a Phenomenal Forearm followed by a Styles Clash to get the win. This match was pretty good and a lot better than their match at Battleground.
Winner: AJ Styles (6 for 11)

The penultimate match is Shinsuke Nakamura challenging Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. Mahal struggles to cope with Nakamura's offence. Luckily, the Singh Brothers distract Nakamura long enough for Mahal to get some momentum. Nakamura makes his comeback but when he goes for the Kinshasa, the Singhs interfere. Nakamura beats the fuck out of them and this gives Mahal the chance to hit the Khallas to get the win. I found this match to be a disappointment. First of all, this match was only 11 minutes. Secondly, once again, Jinder's match ends the same way: Singhs interfere, gets the fuck beaten out of them, Mahal hits the Khallas to win. Fuck WWE, at least change the ending next time.
Winner: Jinder Mahal (6 for 12)

The main event is for the Universal Championship as Bruan Strowman, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe challenge Brock Lesnar in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Strowman seriously fucks up Lesanr in this match. He powerslams Lesnar through the Spanish announce table; then again through the Smackdown announce table. Then, he tips the German announce table on top of Lesnar. Lesnar is taken away on a stretcher and Strowman turns his attention to Reigns and Joe. Later on, Lesnar comes back and beats up Strowman. After numerous finishing moves and near falls, the end comes when Reigns hits 3 Superman punches on Lesnar. When he goes for a spear, Lesnar picks him uo and hits a F-5 to get the win. This was a good match and it made everyone look good, especially Strowman.
Winner: Bruan Strowman (6 for 13)

I thought that Summerslam, with a couple of exceptins, was a good event. WWE have been a mixed bag with their PPVs this year. Hopefullly, this can be the start of some good stuff from them.

There are a lot of interesting matches on the Pre Show and this should be a good one. I'm going for The Hardys and Jordan to win.

Based on their last two matches, I'm looking forward to this one. I think that The New Day will retain.

It was a bit weird seeing Neville lose his Championship 6 days before Summerslam. Whilst I would like Neville to win, I feel that Tozowa has to win this otherwise what was the point?

Er...I'm not too bothered about this but I think that Orton will win.

Big Show vs Big Cass

Oh God, I don't care about this either although seeing Enzo Amore in a shark cage might be  funny. I'm going for Big Cass to win.

Balor will be in Demon Mode for Summerslam and hopefully that will be enough to beat Wyatt, who I give no fucks about.

John Cena vs Baron Corbin

Corbin is on thin ice at the moment. After the worst cash in of all time, this match will define the direction of his career. If he wins, he should be ok but I think that won't happen and this will be the beginning of the end for him.

A tough one to call but I think that Cesaro and Sheamus will retain.

Another one that I'm looking forward to. I feel that Sasha will be the new Champion.

WWE Summerslam 2016 Review

WWE Summerslam took place on Sunday 22nd August at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. With 13 matches in the whole event, including the Kick Off Show, plus the crowning of a new Champion, how will the biggest event of the Summer fare? Let's take a look.

The first match on the Kick Off Show was The Vaudevillians, The Ascension and Breezango taking on The Usos, The Hype Bros and American Alpha. After a while in the match, Ryder gets worn down by his opponents before he tags in Jimmy Uso. In the end, American Alpha hits grand amplitude on Simon Gotch. However, Jimmy Uso in a dick move, tags in and hits a splash to get the win. This was aquite an entertaining match and it looks like they are teasing a heel turn by The Usos.
Winners: The Usos, The Hype Bros and American Alpha (1 for 1)

The next match is another tag team match with The Dudley Boyz taking on the team of Sami Zayn and Neville. Zayn and Neville showed some good teamwork before the Dudleys focus their attack on Neville. Bubba Ray misses a senton, which gives Neville the chance to tag in Zayn. A miscommunication by the Dudleys leads to Zayn hitting a Helluva kick to Bubba Ray, who then receives a red arrow by Neville. This was a fun match although it seemed a little short to me.
Winners: Sami Zayn and Neville (2 for 2)

The final match on the Kick Off Show was the first in a best of seven series between Cesaro and Sheamus. The match goes back and forth before Sheamus gets the advantage. Despite Cesaro mounting a comeback, Sheamus throws him into a turnbuckle then hit a brogue kick to get the win. It was a decent match but I don't know if I want to see them 6 more times.
Winner: Sheamus (3 for 3)

The first match of the event was Enzo Amore and Big Cass taking on Jeri-KO. During the match, Jeri-KO get to focus their attack on Enzo. He eventually gets the tag to Big Cass after avoiding a cannonball by Owens. Despite Big Cass making a comeback, Jeri-KO get the win after Owens pops up Enzo into a codebreaker by Jericho. I was surprised that Jeri-KO won but I enjoyed the match.
Winners: Jeri-KO (3 for 4)

The second match was for the Women's Championship as Charlotte gets her rematch against Sasha Banks. Charlotte gets the early advantage after dropping Sasha's back onto the ropes. Charlotte goes on to ficus on the lower back before Sasha reverses a top rope razor's edge into a frankensteiner. Sasha applies a Boston crab, hits a double knee to the floor and puts on the Banks statement but Charlotte manages to turn it into a pin to get the win. This was a good match but the ending came out of nowhere. Also, Charlotte was a bit careless in a few moves during the match. I was very surprised that Charlotte would regain the belt but, with Sasha having to take some time off to deal with niggling injuries, it was probably the right move.
Winner: Charlotte (3 for 5)

Next is Apollo Crews challenging Hollywood Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. Miz was dominant for most of the match, even though we got to see Crew's impressive athletic ability. Miz gets the win after avoiding an avalanche splash and hitting the skull crushing finale. A very short yet enjoyable match between the two.
Winner: The Miz (4 for 6)

Now one match that I was looking forward to watching: AJ Styles taking on John Cena. This match went back and forth with Styles hitting a torture rack into a spin out powerbomb; and Cena hitting a fucking code red. This was a great bit when Styles applies a calf killer and Cena reverses into a STF. Cena comes very close to winning it after hitting a super AA. However, Styles hit a Styles clash followed by a phenomenal forearm to get the win. I was convinced that Cena would win but I'm so happy that Styles won and I really enjoyed this match. Styles is going on to challenge for the WWE Championship at Backlash. As for Cena, hopefully this will be a chance to evolve his character that he has had for the last 12 fucking years.
Winner: AJ Styles (4 for7)

We now get Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson challenging Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods from The New Day (with Jon Stewart). Gallows and Anderson focus their attack on Kofi before Woods gets the hot tag. The end comes Gallows and Anderson hit the magic killer on Kofi. Jon Stewart, bizarrely comes in to check on Kofi. Gallows and Anderson go to attack Stewart however, Big E comes in to make the save, getting his team disqualified. This match wasn't great to be honest which is a shame as I quite like both teams.
Winners: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson (5 for 8)

We now get the WWE World Championship with Dolph Ziggler challenging Dean Ambrose. This match went back and forth with Ziggler hitting moves such as a fameasser and a zig zag. However, he couldn't put Ambrose away. In the end, Ziggler tries to do a top rope facebuster but Ambrose stops it and hits dirty deeds to get the win. This match wasn't bad and it was weird seeing Ambrose display some heelish behaviour even though he is technically Smackdown's top babyface.
Winner: Dean Ambrose (6 for 9)

Next is the 6-woman's tag match with Becky Lynch, Carmella and Naomi taking on Natalya, Alexa Bliss and the returning Nikki Bella.  Carmella gets worn down by her opponents before she manages to tag in Lynch. However, Nikki Bella gets the win after hitting a TKO on Carmella. The match wasn't anything special to be honest.
Winners: Natalya, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Bella (7 for 10)

Now a match that I'm really looking forward to: Seth Rollins vs Finn Balor for the WWE Universal Championship. This match starts at a fast pace before Rollins takes over. Balor gets hit with a brutal buckle bomb. sending him into the barrier and dislocating his shoulder. Balor manages to put it back in and recovers to make a comeback. Rollins comes close to winning it after a pedigree. However, in the end, Balor hits the coup de grace to become the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. It was a good match however, Balor's injury did hinder it as it limited his move set. Unfortunately, his reign lasts less than 24 hours as he has to vacate the title. It's a shame as he has been pushed so strongly since he was called up in the draft. Anyway, Balor will be back in 6 months so get well soon Finn.
Winner: Finn Balor (7 for 11)

The penultimate match is for the United States Championship as Roman Reigns challenges Rusev. Rusev attacks Reigns before the bell and it degenerates into a brawl and Rusev gets destroyed. The match never starts as a result. It would be nice to see Rusev beat reigns but I suppose they need want to make both guys look strong so it was probably the best decision.

The main event is Brock Lesnar taking on Randy Orton. Lesnar hit a few German suplexes before the fight goes to the outsdie where he chuck Orton through the Smackdown announce table. Orton responds with a RKO on the RAW announce table. Orton hits another RKO in the ring for 2 before Lesnar hits a F5 then proceeds to elbow the fuck out of Orton's head. Orton starts bleeding profusely and the match is stopped by the referee. Afterwards, Lesnar hits Shane McMahon with a F5 when he comes out to check on Orton.

I'm torn about the ending of this match. I get that you want to protray Lesnar as a monster. However, with the issue of concussions being very prominent in the media, it's probably not the wisest idea to show that level of brutality; especially in the PG era.
Winner: Brock Lesnar  (8 for 13)

I honestly thought that Summerslam was a mixed bag. Some of the matches were pretty good and a couple were disappointing. I thought that the order of matches seemed a bit weird and I don't think that having someone bleeding and knocked out is the best way to end the second biggest event of the year.

WWE Summerslam 2016 Preview

 

WWE's biggest event of the summer takes place this evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. With the return of Brock Lesnar and the crowning of a new Champion, how will the event fare? Let's take a look. By the way, I'm trying a slightly new format so let me know what you think of it.

Cesaro vs Sheamus

This match on the Kick Off Show is match 3(?) of a best of seven series. I like both guys but I don't want to see them face each other 7 matches in a row. If I remember correctly, Cesaro is 2-0 so I'm going for Sheamus to win here.

 Sami Zayn and Neville vs The Dudley Boyz

 The other match on the Kick Off Show involves the criminally underused Sami Zayn. Despite that, I do wonder how the Zayn/Neville team will go so I think they will win here.

American Alpha, The Usos and The Hype Bros vs Breezango, The Asecension and The Vaudevillians

Fucking hell! This must be a long Kick Off Show. Except for The Ascension, I generally like these teams. I'm going for the Alpha/Uso/Hype combo to win.

A tough one to call as I really want the Miz to win. However, I believe that Crews will win here.

Another tough one to call but I think that Enzo and Cass will win.

I feel sorry for Rusev.  Reigns has a total dick to him and Lana yet Mick Foley rewards him with a title shot. Hopefully Rusev will make Reigns his bitch.

I like The New Day but they've been Champions for about a year. It might be time for a change.

This match is one that I'm really looking forward to. I'm a big fan of both guys and I would love to see Balor win it. However, I feel that Rollins will become the first ever Universal Champion.

Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton
I don't know why but I'm not really bothered about this match. Despite that, I feel that Brock will win.

WWE Summerslam 2015 Review

WWE Summerslam took place at the Barclays Center in New York on the 23rd August. It looks like it will be a great event, looking at the card. So, how will it fare? Let's take a look.

After the show starts with a segment involving Jon Stewart and Mick Foley, we get our first match, which is Randy Orton taking on Mr Money in the Bank Sheamus. Highlights of the match include: Orton hitting an exploder suplex and later on, a hanging DDT; and Orton hitting a RKO with Sheamus rolling out of the ring. In the end, Sheamus reverses an attempt at a punt to hit the white noise followed by a brogue kick to get the win. The middle of the match wasn't great. However, they had some unique sequences, which helped to engage a generally tough New York crowd. Overall, a good way to start the Pay-Per-View.

The next match is for the Tag Team Championships as The Prime Time Players face the challenges of    The New Day (sucks!), Lucha Dragons and Los Matadores in a fatal 4-way match. Like their match last month, Darren Young gets worn down by their opponents. Eventually, Young breaks free from Kofi and tags in Titus. Titus clears out everyone and hits the Clash of the Titus on one of the Matadores. However, Kofi had already tagged himself in by this point and he throws out Titus and pins the Matador to win the Championships for The New Day. I was quite surprised that The New Day won. However, thinking about it, it makes sense. The New Day are one of the best things on WWE TV at the minute and giving them the Championships would help to keep that momentum.

 Next was Dolph Ziggler (with Lana) facing Rusev (with Summer Rae). Quite early on, Rusev went fot the Accolade and Summer Rae tries to slap Lana. However, Lana slaps her, causing Rusev to release the hold to shout at Lana. The fight goes to the outside and Lana and Summer get into it. Ziggler then superkicks Rusev onto the announce table. Unfortunately, while all this was happening, the referee was counting and neither of them got back into the ring in time before the ref rang the bell for a double count out. The match was decent enough but I wasn't a fan of the finish. That means that the feud will continue (yay?)
Winner: None due to Double Count Out

Next was King Barrett and Stardust taking on Neville and Stephen Amell. Amell surprised Stardust with some wrestling moves. However, Barrett tagged in and cut off Amell with a kick to the gut. Stardust and Barrett work on Amell in their corner before Amell manages to get in a kick to Stardust and tags in Neville. The action goes to the outside and Amell does a neat cross body to the heels. Neville then rolls in Barrett and hits the red arrow to get the win. I quite enjoyed this match. However, considering that Amell and Stardust were the focus of this feud, it felt weird that they weren't involved in the finish. I suppose this means that their feud will continue and I'm not if I want that to happen.
Winners: Neville and Stephen Amell

We now get the triple threat match with Ryback  facing the challenges of Hollywood Miz and The Big Show. At the beginning, Miz goes out of the ring forcing Ryback and Show to fight each other. Show runs down both guys before Ryback cuts that off with a chopblock. A couple of minutes later, Miz hits a skull crushing finale on Ryback after he hits Show with a shell shock. Miz tries to pin both guys numerous times before Show hits him with the KO punch. Ryback then clotheslines Show out of the ring and pins Miz to get the win. This was a good match until the end. The New Day did that to win their match earlier; and it is not something that Ryback (who is the face) should do to win as it's a heelish move.
Winner: Ryback

Next is a tag team match between Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Harper and Wyatt take advantage after Reigns was smashed into the announce table to wear down Ambrose. Reigns eventually recovers to take the tag from Ambrose and he lands some offense before getting hit by a sit down powerbomb from Harper. Reigns goes on to hit Superman punches to both Wyatts before he and Ambrose hit a doomsday device on Harper and Wyatt breaks up the pin. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail on Ambrose but he gets out of it and hits dirty deeds. Reigns then hits the spear to get the win. The match was pretty decent although it seems that the anti Reigns crowd is making a comeback.
Winners: Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns
Predictions: 3 for 6

 Next is World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins taking on US Champion John Cena for both Championships. Highlights of the match include: Rollins hitting a running shooting star press; Cena hitting an AA early on; Rollins missing a phoenix splash and getting the STF put on him; and Cena applying a figure four and Rollins reversing it. The end comes when we get a ref bump and Jon Stewart runs down with a chair and hits Cena in the gut. Rollins then hits Cena with the Pedigree onto the chair to win the match and become the first wrestler since Goldberg in WCW to hold the US title and the World title. I really enjoyed this match and it's one of my favourite matches if the year. However, I wasn't really a fan of the end. I like Jon Stewart but I feel that him helping Rollins might not have made sense to much of the audience.

Predictions: 3 for 7

We now get a three team Divas elimination match involving the teams of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Paige; Sasha Banks, Naomi and Tamina;  and Nikki Bella, Brie Bella and Alicia Fox. Early on, the Bellas do suicide dives to everyone and Tamina gets pinned in the middle of the ring, eliminating her team. The Bellas and Alicia start to work on Paige before she manages to tag in Charlotte. She later on tags in Becky who hits an urange on Brie to get the win. This wasn't a bad match. However, the main issue with The Divas Revolution is the character development or lack of.

The penultimate match is Kevin Owens facing Cesaro. Cesaro goes for the big swing early on, but Owens blocked in and sent Cesaro to the outside. Owens works on Cesaro, hitting moves such as
a cannonball splash into the barricade. Cesaro deso get back into it with moves such as a giant lift up slam. However, it goes pear shaped when Owens crotches Cesaro on the top turnbuckle then hits s top rope suplex driver. He followed that up with a pop-up powerbomb to get the win. This was a good win for Owens after losing his feud with John Cena then losing his his NXT title to Finn Balor the night before. Overall, a solid match.
Winner: Kevin Owens
Predictions: 4 for 9

The main event is the Revenge of the Taker (again and kind of) as Undertaker faces Brock Lesnar. Highlights of the match include: Lesnar hitting 4 German suplexes and getting busted open early on; Taker hitting a tombstone for 2; Lesnar applying the kimura then getting hit with the last ride; and Lesnar hitting 3 F-5s. In the end, Taker puts Lesnar in the Hell's gate but it's reversed into the kimura. Taker rolls to pin Lesnar and he kicks out and the bell rings. The referee Charles Robinson goes to the timekeeper and states that he didn't call for the bell. Meanwhile, Taker low blowed Lesnar and reapplies the Hell's gate. Lesnar eventually passes out giving Taker the win.

Up until the end, this was a really enjoyable match. However, the ending ruined it for me. We all expected Undertaker to win and get his revenge for Lesnar breaking the Streak. The ending makes it look like that Taker didn't deserve to win, especially as the replay shows Taker tapping out. Anyway, it looks like we will get Taker/Lesnar III in the foreseeable future.

I quite enjoyed Summerslam. However, I wasn't a fan of some of the endings. I get it creates debate and more matches but it flies in the face of even WWE logic, which is impressive and slightly disappointing.

WWE SummerSlam 2015 Preview

SummerSlam 2015 takes place this evening at the Staples Center in...wait. It's not in Los Angeles? Oh right, this year it's in the Barclays Center in New York. With Undertaker deciding to get his revenge against Brock Lesnar, does this have the potential to be the best PPV of the year? Let's look at the card.

The Prime Time Players will defend their Tag Team Championships against The Lucha Dragons, Los Matadores and The New Day(sucks) in a Fatal 4-way. This could be a good match and it's hard to see who could win it. I'm going for the status quo and think that the Prime Time Players will keep their titles.

The Intercontinental Championship is on the line in a triple threat match as Hollywood Miz and The Big Show challenge Ryback. Ryback has been ok as Champion so far and I can't see him losing this so I'll think he'll retain.

Kevin Owens will face Cesaro  in a match that I'm looking forward to seeing. Both men could win this but I'm going for Cesaro to win here.

The team of King Barrett and Stardust take on the team of Neville and Stephen Amell. This is an interesting one to watch. Neville and Amell will obviously win here but it's a big ask of Neville to carry him through this. Hopefully it will go well.

Team B.A.D., PCB and Team Bella will face each other in a three team elimination match. I've not seen very much of the Divas Revolution so far but I'm excited for this match. I can see WWE being assholes and letting Team Bella win. However, if they have any fucking sense, they won't. Personally, I think that PCB will win.

The team of Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper will face Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. This is another match that I'm looking forward to seeing. I think that Ambrose and Reigns will win.

Dolph Ziggler will face Rusev in what could be a good match. I'm going for Ziggler to win here.

Randy Orton will face Sheamus in a match that I couldn't give a fuck about. However, I have to predict a winner so fuck it, Orton to win.

Undertaker will get his chance of revenge against Brock Lesnar. Hopefully this will be a better match than the one they had at Wrestlemania XXX. Anyway, unless WWE want to shock the world again, Lensar is not winning this.

Oh look, John Cena is challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I'm quite looking forward to it. I would love for Rollins to win here but I think it will be Cena wins and becomes Champion once again (yay)

WWE Summerslam 2012 Review

The Silver Anniversary of Summerslam took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There were 8 matches on the card, including the Pre-Show. Was the show any good? Let's take a look.

The Pre-Show was Antonio Cesario challenging Santino Marella for the United States Championship. Santino goes the Cobra early and Cesario stops that from happening, eventually getting to rip up the sock. Santino gets back the momentum and pulls out another Cobra sock literally out of his ass. However, it wasn't enough as Cesario hits the Neutraliser and become the new United States Champion. It was a good match and, although I wanted Cesario to be the next United States Champion, I didn't think it would happen at Summerslam.

After Triple H strongly encourages referee Scott Armstrong to be lenient with the rules regarding his match with Brock Lesnar, the PPV officially starts with Dolph Ziggler taking on Chris Jericho. I was surprised this match was on first. Despite that, I was really looking forward to his match so hopefully they won't disappoint. Jericho gets the early advantage before Ziggler starts to focus on the ribs that he injured on Smackdown. Ziggler mocks Jericho with a pin. Ziggler then hits the Fameasser followed later on by a sleeper. Jericho gets out of it and hits a top rope hurracarrana. Jericho goes for the Lionsaut but Ziggler knees him hits the ZigZag but that only gets a 2 count. Jericho hits the Codebreaker but Dolph rolls out of the ring. Jericho rolls Ziggler back in and gets distracted by Vickie as he is going back in. This gives the opportunity for Ziggler to do a small package but that only gets a 2 count. Jericho throws Ziggler into the turnbuckel and applies the Liontamer version of the Walls of Jericho to get the win. I really enjoyed this match and is one of the best opening matches ever seen at Summerslam.

After Matt Striker interviews Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman (well, really Paul Heyman), we get Daniel Bryan taking on Kane. Bryan tries to use his superior agility to get the advantage but Kane is too strong for him eventually throwing Bryan out of the ring. Bryan starts to get some momentum but is stopped by Kane. Bryan tries to apply the LeBell "Yes" "No" Lock but Kane powers out of it. Bryan goes for a flying headbutt from the top rope but Kane catches him and hits the Chokeslam. Kane then goes the Tombstone; however, Bryan reverses it into a small package to get the win before commencing Operation GTFO. Kane goes after Bryan and starts to look for him backstage. Josh "Bad Timing" Mathews then decides that this would be a good time to interview Kane. Understandably Kane doesn't take that well and promptly sends flying Mathews flying through the air. Back to the match, it was an ok match with a good ending.

Next we get the Intercontinental Championship between Rey Mysterio and The Miz. The match goes back and forth to begin with with The Miz showing his new agressive stance. The action goes to the outsdie and Miz sends Mysterio onto the top of the guard rail. Miz has a lot of momentum including hitting a sit down powerbomb, which gets a 2 count. Mysterio manages to counter a few moves but is unable to get the pinfall.  Mysterio hits the 619. Miz tries the Skull Crushing Finale but it's reversed into a small package, which Miz kicks out at 2. Miz then sends Mysterio into the turnbuckle then hits the Skull Crushing Finale to get the pinfall and retain the Championship. I enjoyed this match with a lot of impressive counters by Mysterio.

We then get a backstage segment where CM Punk is not happy with AJ putting him into a triple threat match for the WWE Championship because he could lose the title without getting pinned. AJ decides to ignore him, which Punk feels that is disrespecting him. I kinda like where they are going with Punk as long as the WWE don't make into a generic heel. Punk can be a great anti-hero if played right.

The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line as Alberto Del Rio challenges Sheamus. The action goes to the outside early before going back in the ring. Del Rio goes for the Cross Armbreaker but Sheamus wh then attempts the Brogue Kick. However, Sheamus hits the ropes instead and this gives Del Rio to get the chance to wear down Sheamus. Del Rio attempts the Brogue Kick but Sheamus counters and tries to get some momentum but Del Rio gains it back. Del Rio applies the Cross Armbreaker but Sheamus manages to reverse it into a powerbomb. Sheamus hits the White Noise but Del Rio kicks out at 2. After Del Rio attempts a pin and Sheamus kicks out, Del Rio expresses his frustration at Ricardo "Virgil" Rodriguez and drags him into the ring. As the referee gets Ricardo out, he throws his shoe to Del Rio. However, Sheamus gets it instead and hits Del Rio in the head then hits the Irish Curse Backbreaker and pins him. Del Rio puts his foot on the rope but the referee doesn't see it and Sheamus moves it away to stop the referee spotting it. I enjoyed this match but I didn't like the ending. Sheamus' actions were more of a heel than a popular face. It looks like we will get another match between the two at Night of Champions.

The Prime Time Players (#Millions of Dollars!) challenge Kofi Kingston and R-Truth for the Tag Team championship.  Truth starts the match and is quickly dominated by O'Neill and Young. Kofi gets the hot tag and decimates O'Neill. Young distracts Kofi, giving O'Neill the chance to get out of the ring and hit a thunderous clothesline, giving the momentum back to the Prime Time Players. Kofi counters a slam into a DDT, giving him the opportunity to tag Truth. Young attempts a gutbuster but it's reversed into the Little Jimmy to give him and Kofi the win. This was a good tag team match and I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch between the two.

The penultimate match was the triple threat WWE Championship between CM Punk, The Big Show and John Cena. Show is dominant to begin with, which means that Punk and Cena work together against him. The did a suplex on Show but Show reverses it and suplexes them both. Punk dropkicks Show in the knee and starts to attack Show but it's only temporary as Show regains his dominance. There was a nice bit where   Punk attempt to do a suicide dive to Show but Show grabs his neck and slams him against the ring apron. Cena manages to hit a side suplex and Punk hit the Macho Man elbow drop but that only gets 2. Punk applies a submission move where he puts his legs and arms round Show's neck. Cena then decides to apply the STF at the same time to Show. Show understandably taps out which leaves everyone wondering. Punk and Cena both think they won, and I don't get Cena's reasoning here as he put on the STF after Punk put on his submission move. RAW General Manager AJ comes out to the ring and after taking a fucking decade to think about it, just says "Restart the match" and walks off. During this time, Show manages to recover and hits a double chokeslam but is unable to get the win. Show goes for the WMD on Cena but Cena ducks and hits the AA. Punk, taking inspiration from Edge's manual "How to be the Ultimate Opportunist", throws Cena out of the ring and pins Show to get the win and retain the WWE Championship. I enjoyed the match then it became a clusterfuck, which was really annoying.

After a performance by Kevin Rudolf signing the theme song to Summerslam "Don't Give Up", including some embarrassing dancing by the ring announcers and the commentators; we get "The Perfect Storm" as Brock Lesnar takes on Triple H. Brock goes for the Kimura Lock early but Triple H powers out of it and clotheslines Brock over the top rope. This pisses Brock off and starts to destroy Triple H, focusing on the arm that he broke. Triple H tries to get some momentum but he is stopped by a German suplex. Brock continues his assault but is slowed down by a suplex by Triple H. Triple H goes for the Pedigree but is thrown over the top rope by Brock. Triple H sends Brock gut first into the announce table, and this gives Triple H the opportunity to focus on Brock's stomach, driving his knee continuously into the stomach. Triple H hits the AA Spinebuster then hits the Pedigree but Brock kicks out at 2. Brock hits a blatant low blow, which prompts ref Scott Armstrong to consider ringing the bell. He doesn't and Brock hits the F-5 but Triple H kicks out at 2. Brock applies the Kimura lock but Triple H manages to punch his way out of it. Triple H hits another Pegidree but as Triple H goes for the cover, Brock applies the Kimura lock, "breaks" Triple H's arm, prompting him to tap out and give Brock the win. Brock goes off and Triple H goes out mournfully saying goodbye. Although, I got a pissed off at Brock constantly going for the arm, I liked the story of the match, especially the role of referee Scott Armstrong and Paul Heyman. Heyman gets special credit for his reactions during the match, especially when he acts genuinely concerned for Brock when he inures his stomach.

I enjoyed most of Summerslam. Like I mention when I review Wrestlemania, Summerslam will not only be compared to not only the last PPV but also the last Summerslam and I think it's on the same level on both counts. The only thing that I really hated about the event was the finishes of the two World Championship matches as you see one in which the good guy cheats and another which ends in a bit of a clusterfuck. Despite that, I'm interested to see where the WWE goes from here.

WWE Summerslam 2012 Predictions

The 25^th Summerslam will be taking place once again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The card looks quite decent so let’s take a look.

The Pre-Show Match on YouTube will feature the United States Championship as Santino Marella is challenged by Antonio Cesario. Normally, I would predict that Cesario would win. However, I can’t see the title changing on a pre-show. I’m going for Santino to pull it out of the bag and Cesario will hopefully win at Night of Champions.

The Tag Team Championship will be on the line as The Prime Time Players (#millions of dollars) challenge Kofi Kingston and R-Truth. The tag team division is slowly, slowly looking like the WWE give a fuck about it. To continue in that trend, I think that the Prime Time Players will win and will be like: “A Who?”

Daniel Bryan will take on Kane in a match that doesn’t really make sense to me. Can someone tell  me what made Kane turn face? Anyway, I think this could be a decent match and I can see AJ fucking up Bryan’s chances to win. Despite that, I think that Bryan will win and continue to go “No! No! No!” at every opportunity.

The Miz will be challenged by Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship. I’m looking forward to this match as it could be an entertaining contest. The Miz hasn’t been Champion for long, so I think that he will retain.

Chris Jericho will face Dolph Ziggler in a match that I am really looking forward. The feud between the two has been a joy to watch and it looks like it will be Jericho’s last appearance before he goes off on tour with Fozzy. I can see either one winning but I’m going for a punt and predicting that Jericho will win. Ziggler may have the MITB briefcase but he doesn’t need to be a roll before he cashes it in. Prime example is Daniel Bryan last year. This match has the potential to not only be the match of the night but one of the matches of the year.

Predicted Winner: Chris Jericho

The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line as Sheamus will be challenged (yet again) by Alberto Del Rio. I was enjoying aspects of this feud but I feel that they have ruined it when they had the match two weeks ago. I can see both guys winning but I think that Sheamus will retain and hopefully go on to someone else.

Predicted Winner: Sheamus

The WWE Championship will be defended in a triple threat match between CM Punk, The Big Show and John Cena. I feel sorry for Punk. He bitches about not being in the main event at the expense of Cena; gets to face Cena in a PPV match, which normally guarantees main event status; then will get upstaged by the Lesnar/HHH match. I can’t see Show winning and I think that Cena will challenge for the WWE Championship at the next PPV. Therefore, I’m going for Punk to retain.

Predicted Winner: CM Punk

The main event (most likely) will be Brock Lesnar taking on Triple H. Even though this involves Triple H and Paul Heyman, two guys that I love watching, I’ve not really enjoyed this feud. I found it bizarre that the good guys effectively bullied Heyman into accepting the match Anyway, even though I love Triple H, Lesnar HAS to win this. If he doesn’t, then I feel that his one year contract has been a complete waste of time.

 Predicted Winner: Brock Lesnar

 I won't get to see the event til Monday evening so I'll publish my review during the week I hope you enjoy the show.
