NXT Takeover XXV Preview

NXT Takeover XXV will be taking place tomorrow evening at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It will be the first Takeover in a few years that will not be taking place on the same weekend as a Pay-Per-View, so it will be interesting to see how it does. As usual, the card looks great, so let's take a look.

Roderick Strong vs Matt Riddle
I'm quite looking forward to this one and I can see both guys winning, I'm going for Strong to win.

Shayna Baszler vs Io Shirai 
NXT Women's Championship
This is an interesting one. I'm going for Shirai to win, hopefully paving the way for Baszler to go up to the main roster.

Velveteen Dream vs Tyler Breeze
NXT North American Championship
This is a difficult one. I feel sorry for Breeze going back to NXT and I think that him winning would be a backward step for the brand. I'm going for Dream to win.

Street Profits vs The Forgotten Sons vs Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly vs Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch
Ladder Match for the NXT Tag Team Championship
This has the ability to be the match of the night. I think that, based on recent episodes, that the Street Profits might win this one.
Predicted Winners: Street Profits

Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole (Bay Bay!)
NXT Championship
Their match at the last Takeover was phenomenal so I hope we will get a match near to that standard. I would like Cole to win but I think that Gargano will win.
Predicted Winner: Johnny Gargano

WWE Money in the Bank 2019 Review

The match on the Kick Off Show was the Smackdown Tag Team Champions "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan and The Usos.  Early on, Rowan hits Jey Uso with a running crossbody to give his team the advantage. Bryan goes for his running dropkicks but Jey reverses the third one into a Samoan Drop and this gives him the chance to get the hot tag to Jimmy Uso. However, when Jey goes for the Uso Splash, Bryan catches him and applies the LeBell Lock, which is broken up by Jimmy. After The Usos take out Rowan on the outside, they then superkick Bryan then hit him with the Double Uce to get the win. This was a fun match to watch.
Winners: The Usos (0 for 1)

The first match on the show is the Women's Money in the Bank Match between Bayley, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Ember Moon, Mandy Rose, Naomi, Natalya and Nikki Cross. Highlights of the match include: Naomi using the splits to avoid a ladder sandwich; Nikki hitting Ember with a spinning neckbreaker; Ember hitting The Eclipse on Natalya from a ladder on the outside; Carmella coming back after after injuring her knee to fuck up Mandy; and Sonya Deville stopping Carmella from grabbing the briefcase. In the end, Sonya has to literally carry Mandy to the briefcase but Bayley climbs up, pushes them off the ladder then collects the briefcase to get the win. I quite enjoyed the match although I didn't think it was as good as last year's.
Winner: Bayley (0 for 2)

Next is the United States Championship match as Rey Mysterio challenges Samoa Joe. Joe kicks Mysterio down but he recovers and gets out of a powerbomb to pin Joe and get the win. Wait, what? That match lasted less than 2 minutes and the referee missed Joe's shoulder being up for the pin. Obviously, Joe doesn't take the loss well and beats up Mysterio. The match was ok but it was ruined by the referee.
Winner: Rey Mysterio (0 for 3)

We now get a steel cage match between Hollywood Miz and "The Best in the World(?)" Shane McMahon. When the bell rings, Shane tries to escape but Miz stops him. Shane slams Miz into the cage to get the advantage. Shane manages to get a steel chair but Miz grabs it and hits a Skull Crushing Finale onto the chair. Miz pins Shane but Shane puts his foot on the rope, which shouldn't be a rope break but the referee stops the count. The fuck?! In the end, Shane starts to climb out and Miz grabs him by his baseball jersey. However, Shane manages to slip out of his jersey to get the win by escaping the cage. The match was ok but this was the second match ruined by bad officiating. Normally, you don't have rope breaks in a steel cage match. However, you can't say there's no rope break for a submission yet say there is one when there's a pin. Plus there's the fact that Shane has beaten a former WWE Champion twice and has now gone to feud with Roman Reigns as well. What the fuck is happening?!
Winner: Shane McMahon (0 for 4)

We now get our second Championship match as Ariya Daivari challenges Tony Nese for the Cruiserweight Championship. After a fast paced start, Daivari grinds Nese's eyes against the top rope to get the advantage. Nese's vision starts to recover and Nese makes a comeback. Daivari goes to hit the Hammerlock Clothesline but Nese kicks out and goes on to hit the Running Nese to retain the Championship. This was a good match between the two and quite enjoyable.
Winner: Tony Nese (1 for 5)

It is the start of a busy night for "The Man" Becky Lynch as she faces the challenge of Lacey Evans for the RAW Women's Championship. Early on, Lacey tries to flee but Becky stops her. Lacey starts to focus on Becky's left arm to get the advantage. Lacey does a dick by wiping off her sweat and stuffing it into Becky's mouth and this is the incentive for Becky to make a comeback. In the end, Lacey rolls up Becky but the referee doesn't count for some reason. Becky then reverses it into the Dis-Arm-Her and Lacey immediately submits, giving Becky the win. Is that Bad Referee Day or something?! This is the third match ruined by bad officiating. I would have some sympathy if this was a real sport but it isn't. Anyway, well done to Becky
Winner: Becky Lynch (2 for 6)

Oh, wait a minute. Charlotte Flair comes out and, because she's not an idiot, demands her match takes place right now. So, it's Charlotte Flair challenging "The Man" Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Women's Championship. Charlotte gets the early advantage and hits multiple Flair Chops and puts Becky in a Boston Crab. After exchanging punches, Charlotte goes for natural selection on the apron but fails and lands on the floor. While the referee does the 10 count, Lacey Evans runs back down and hits Becky with The Women's Right. Charlotte slides in and almost loses to an inside cradle. However, she kicks out and hits a big boot to get the win. Except for the referee almost doing a 3 count on the inside cradle, which wasn't his fault, it was a good match.
Winner: Charlotte Flair (3 for 7)

We still haven't finished yet as Becky attacks Lacey after the match. Charlotte helps out Lacey and they beat up Becky. Bayley comes on to make the save, which ends up with Charlotte missing a spear on Bayley and crashing into the ring post. Bayley is suddenly inspired by Edge's manual "How to be the Ultimate Opportunist" and cashes in her Money in the Bank briefcase. Bayley then hits a Macho Man elbow drop to get the win and become the new Smackdown Women's Champion. I know that Corey Graves bitched about Charlotte not being on her feet when the bell rang. However, there have been times when that's happened in a cash in so I'm not really bothered by that. I'm gutted that Becky lost a Championship however, it leads to a new Champion and diverts Charlotte away to someone else.
Winner: Bayley (N/A)

Next is Roman Reigns taking on Elias. Elias decides to get a head start by attacking Reigns backstage. He then goes on to have a concert in the ring. Afterwards, Reigns attacks him at the entrance ramp. Reigns goes on to throw Elias in the ring and spears after the bell rings to get the win. The match was...well, it wasn't a match was it?
Winner: Roman Reigns (4 for 8)

We now get the Universal Championship as AJ Styles challenging Seth Rollins.  The match goes back and forth in the beginning before Styles hits a knee to Rollins on the outside to get the advantage. It doesn't last long as Rollins makes a comeback with two suicide dives. Rollins comes close after hitting a buckle bomb and a frog splash and later on, Styles hits an impressive torture rack into a powerbomb. Bith guys have some very close near falls including Styles managing to avoid a curb stomp to hit the Styles Clash. In the end, Styles goes for the Phenomenal Forearm but Rollins reverses it into a revolution knee. He follows that with 2 super kicks and the Curb Stomp to get the win. This was a great match between the two and I hope they wrestle again in the near future.
Winner: Seth Rollins (5 for 9)

We were supposed to get the Lucha House Party against 3 randoms but Lars Sullivan turns up and fucks them up. Well, ok that happened.

Anyway, the penultimate match is for the WWE Championship as Kevin Owens challenges Kofi Kingston.  The match starts with them punching each other and Owens hits a superkick to get the advantage. The match goes back and forth and Owens goes for the Stunner but Kofi hits SOS for 2. Owens hits a Pop Up Powerbomb and later on, a Stunner but both times, Kofi kicks out. Owens goes for a Swanton Bomb but Kofi gets the knees up and then hits Trouble in Paradise to get the win. This was a good match.
Winner: Braun Strowman (6 for 10)

The main event is the Men's Money in the Bank with Ali, Andrade, Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Randy Orton and Ricochet. Highlights of the match include: Orton slamming Ali, Balor and Ricochet onto the English announce table; Andrade hitting Balor with a sunset flip powerbomb onto a ladder; Ali hitting Andrade with a Spanish fly off a ladder; Corbin catching Ricochet doing a suicide dive to hit a Deep Six; and McIntyre slamming Andrade onto Balor. Ali looks like he is going to grab the briefcase but suddenly, Brock Lesnar's music hits. Lesnar tips Ali off the ladder, climbs up to grab the briefcase and wins...? Wait...what?! What the fuck just happened?! The match was pretty good but the ending was fucking stupid. Lesnar doesn't fucking need this. I find it insane that WWE have gone from having a part timer be Universal Champion turning up about ten times a year to having the same part timer be Mr Money in the Bank. It doesn't make any sense and it was a shitty end to the Pay Per View.

Well, I thought that Money in the Bank was a mixed bag. There was some good matches, the Universal Championship match being a particular highlight. However, some matches were ruined by incompetent officiating, which doesn't make sense as this is all supposed to be planned. Then, it goes on to have the worst ending to a Pay Per View possibly ever by having Brock Lesnar turn up for do 30 seconds work and win Money in the Bank. I find it unbelievable that WWE decided to repeat what they've done with Lesnar for the last few years. The briefcase should have used to help bring up someone. Instead, they decided to go back to a part timer for ratings? I don't know Anyway, we now go to Saudi Arabia for WWE Blood Money III Super Show Down. Yay...

WWE Money in the Bank 2019 Preview

The first Pay-Per-View since Wrestlemania, Money in the Bank, will be taking place in the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. WWE has been going a rough spot with their ratings at the minute so hopefully, this event will help them get better ratings. So, let's take a look at the card.

The Usos vs "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan
The match on the Kick Off Show should be a good one although it's weird that Bryan, who was WWE Champion at Wrestlemania, is now on the Kick Off Show. Anyway, I'm going for him and Rowan to win.

Tony Nese vs Ariya Daivari
Cruiserwieght Championship
This should be a good one and I'm going for Nese to win.

Samoa Joe vs Rey Mysterio

Hopefully Rey has fully recovered from his injury so we will get a longer match than the one at Wrestlemania. A tough one but I'm going for Joe to retain.

I thought The Miz moving to RAW would end this feud but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, I'm going for Miz to win.

Becky will be defending both her Championships in two separate matches. It depends on which match goes on first. If it's this one, I think that Becky will win and Lacey will beat her up afterwards leading to the next match.

The feud continues although I thought it would be over by now. I'm going for Charlotte to win if it's the second match.

Right, let's deal with the elephant in the room. The Viking Experience is a fucking stupid name and it only got changed an hour before the start of RAW because Vince McMahon didn't like the name. I'm sorry but Vince had plenty of time to get the name changed before this so I feel sorry for them. I was surprised for them as they are the current NXT Tag Team Champions so I suspect they will lose the Championships by the next Takeover. 

As for the rest of the Shake Up, this has had so many consequences. It has resulted in the break up of two stables and two tag teams and I'm worried for some of them. I like Liv Morgan but she is the least talented one out of The Riott Squad and I can see her being lost in the shuffle. The same probably goes for Chad Gable as well. I'm also worried about 205 Live. The show has improved a lot over the last year and it was thanks to Buddy Murphy and Cedric Alexander. Now that, along with Ali, they are on different shows, I'm concerned about the future direction of the show.

Out of RAW and Smackdown, I strongly feel that Smackdown got the best of it. The addition of Ember Moon, Bayley, Mickie James and Kairi Sane has really improved the quality of their Women's Division. Bayley moving was a surprise as she was in a tag team with Sasha Banks and I assume it's a result of Sasha's unhappiness over the decisions taken by WWE regarding the Women's Tag Team Championship. Despite that. I think she'll do well on Smackdown.

Roman Reigns and Finn Balor going over to Smackdown was also a surprise. It currently means that the United States and the Intercontinental Championships are on the same show so they will change in the near future. I only hope that Reigns doesn't get put in the WWE Championship picture too quickly, especially as we got a fan's champion in Kofi Kingston. 

Overall, as with every Shake Up, they will be winners and losers from this and I'll be interested to see where it goes. 

Wrestlemania 35 Review

Wrestlemania 35 took place on Sunday 7th April at the Metlife Stadium in New York. There are SIXTEEN matches on the card plus we will get to see the first ever women's main event. Let's take a look at the biggest show of the year.

There were 4 matches on the Kick Off Show and the first one is for the Cruiserweight Championship as Tony Nese challenges Buddy Murphy. The match starts at 100 miles an hour before Murphy bounces Nese onto the turnbuckle. Nese gets back in control when he hits a brutal German suplex. Nese goes for the running knee but Murphy hits a knee followed by Murphy's Law. However, Nese manages to get his foot on the ropes. In the end, Nese hits a German suplex followed by the running knee to get the win...Wait, what? Ok, I did not see that coming. The match was pretty decent between the two. I'm still getting used to seeing Nese as a babyface and I just couldn't see him being the Cruiserweight Champion. Despite that, I hope that he has a good title reign.
Winner: Tony Nese (0 for 1)

The next match is the Women's Battle Royal. Taking part were: Dana Brooke, Mickie James, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, Asuka, Carmella, Naomi, Lana, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Zelina Vega, Maria Kanellis, Ember Moon, Kairi Sane, Candice Le Rae and Nikki Cross. Kanellis is the first to be eliminated thanks to Cross. Ember Moon goes for the Eclipse on Deville, but she gets eliminated by Lana, which pissed off the crowd. The Riott Squad team up to eliminate Lana and Sane before Brooke eliminates Riott and Morgan. The final 5 end up being: Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Asuka, Mickie James and Sarah Logan. James eliminates Rose but she then gets eliminated by Deville. Asuka eliminates Deville and Logan eliminates Asuka to win the match. No, wait, hang on. Carmella suddenly appears out of nowhere and it turns out she hasn't been eliminated. Logan ends up on the apron and Carmella superkicks her off to the floor to get the win. The match was ok but I have no idea what happened to Carmella during the match. The commentators didn't mention it and it wasn't shown in the replays. Even though Carmella is a face, this makes it a tainted win for me and that's unfortunate.
Winner: Carmella (0 for 2)

Next is Zack Ryder and Kurt Hawkins challenging The Revival for the RAW Tag Team Championship. The Revival spend the early part of the match mocking Hawkins over his losing streak. Ryder tries to crossbody Dash Wilder but Scott Dawson pulls him out of the way and Ryder goes flying to the floor. This gives The Revival the opportunity to wear down Ryder. Ryder back bodydrops Dawson and he manages to tag in Hawkins. The match goes to the outside and Dawson hits Hawkins with a beautiful brain buster to the floor. Dawson rolls Hawkins back in but Hawkins suddenly pins him with a small package to get the win...Wait, seriously? Hawkins ends his 269 match losing streak and, along with Ryder, becomes the new RAW Tag Team Champions?! The match was pretty good. I'm pissed that The Revival lost, especially to a small package out of nowhere. Having said that, it did create a nice Wrestlemania(ish) moment for Ryder and Hawkins.
Winners: Zack Ryder and Kurt Hawkins (0 for 3)

The Kick Off Main Event is the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Taking part were: Michael Che  and Colin Yost from Saturday Night Live, Braun Strowman, Apollo Crews, Titus O'Neil, Tyler Breeze, Jinder Mahal, No Way Jose, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, Kalisto, Gran Metalik, Lince Dorado, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, Rhyno, Konnor, Viktor, Andrade, Ali, Shelton Benjamin, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Otis, Tucker and EC3. As soon as the match starts, Che and jost hide under the ring and we can get a fuck load of eliminations before Strowman gets ganged up on. Gallows sends Strowman into the ring post and to the floor but not over the top rope. The final 5 in the ring end up being: Andrade, Apollo Crews, The Hardys and Braun Strowman. In a dumb move, Andrade eliminates Apollo Crews and himself with a hurracarrana. While Strowman is trying to eliminate The Hardys, Che and Jost reappear and try to eliminate Strowman. Strowman deals with it and eliminates The Hardys. Jost tries to use a therapist to appeal to Strowman. However, Strowman kills the therapist then eliminates Che. He then chucks Jost to a pile of wrestlers on the outside to get the win. The match was more fun to watch than I thought it would be and I quite enjoyed it.
Winner: Braun Strowman (0 for 4)

Wrestlemania starts with a segment involving the host of Wrestlemania Alexa Bliss and that racist piece of shit Hulk Hogan. It ends with Paul Heyman storming to the ring and announcing that because Brock Lesnar is not going on last, he might as well have his match now. So, the first match of the show is Seth Rollins challenging Brock Lesnar  for the Universal Championship. Brock attacks Rollins as he enters the ring and beats the fuck out of him. The bell finally rings to start the match and Lesnar continues his assault, hitting 3 German suplexes. When Lesnar goes for the F5, Rollins gets out of it, pushes him into the referee and hits a low blow. Rollins then hits 3 Curb Stomps to get the win and become the new Universal Champion. I was surprised at how short it was but it was a pretty decent match and it would be nice to see a full time Champion on RAW.
Winner: Seth Rollins (1 for 5)

Next is AJ Styles taking on Randy Orton. Orton gets the advantage with a thumb to the eye followed by a dropkick. Styles gets back into it and applies the calf crusher but Orton gets to the ropes. Orton manages to hit the RKO but Styles kicked out. In the end, Orton goes for another RKO but Styles stops it and hits a Phemonenal Forearm to get the win. The match was ok, nothing special.
Winner: AJ Styles (1 for 6)

After another pointless Lacey Evans walk on, we get our next match, which is a Fatal 4-Way Match for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship. Champions The Usos facing the challenges of Ricochet and Aleister Black, The Bar and Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. Highlights of the match include: Cesaro hitting a giant swing on Ricochet while Sheamus punches the fuck out of everyone else; Ricochet breking up a pin with a shooting star press; and everyone but Black doing a tower of doom and Ricochet managing to survive it. In the end, The Usos hit Sheamus with a double splash to get the win. This was quite a good match with a few cool spots.
Winners: The Usos (2 for 7)

After we see the Hall of Fame Class of 2019, we get a Falls Count Anywhere Match between Hollywood Miz and Shane McMahon.  McMahon gets the early advantage and is about to elbow drop Miz through the announce table when his father gets in the way. McMahon then starts beating him, prompting Miz to defend his father. The fight goes into the crowd and into the row of international announcers. Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale in the tech area yet Shane kicked out. In the end, Miz suplexes McMahon off the scaffolding, knocking them both out. However, McMahon has his arm on top of Miz and pins him to get the win. The wrestling wasn't great but it was fun enough to keep me entertained.
Winner: Shane McMahon (2 for 8)

The next match is for the Women's Tag Team Championship as the teams of Nia Jax and Tamina, Beth Phoenix and Natalya and The IIonics  challenge Sasha Banks and Bayley in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Tamina beats attacking the other competitors before Sasha Banks is worn down by Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. Other highlights of the match include: Beth Phoenix suplexing the IIonics; Sasha putting Beth in the Banks Statement; Natalya putting both Sasha and Bayley in the Sharpshooter; and Beth getting hit with a Macho Man elbow drop by Bayley followed by a frog splash by Sasha. Beth hits Bayley with a Glam Slam from the top rope. However, she isn't aware that Billie made the tag on her. When Beth goes for the cover, Peyton pulls her off and Billie pins Bayley to get the win. The match was pretty decent and I'm so happy for Billie and Peyton getting the win. They have been  fun to watch since NXT and I can't wait to see how their title reign goes.
Winners: The IIonics (3 for 9)

Next is Kofi Kingston challenging "The New" Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship. After some back and forth, Bryan avoids a springboard splash to the outside by Kofi and he crashes onto the announce table.  Bryan hits a few running dropkicks in the corner then almost folds Kofi in half with a Boston Crab. Kofi gets back into it and hits the SOS but Bryan applies the LeBell Lock. Bryan goes to the outside and Rowan stops Kofi from going after him. This leads to an altercation between Rowan the rest of The New Day and he is taken out with the Midnight Hour. Back in the ring, Bryan hits the running knee but Kofi kicks out. Bryan again applies the LeBell Lock but Kofi powers out of it. Kofi then hits Trouble in Paradise to get the win. This match was really good and I'm so happy that Kofi won, being the first African wrestler to become WWE Champion.
Winner: Kofi Kingston (4 for 10)

The next match is Rey Mysterio challenging Samoa Joe for the United States Championship. Joe doesn't fuck around at the beginning. However, Msyterio hits a DDT and the 619. Joe then puts Mysterio in the Coquina Clutch and Mysterio passes out, giving Joe the win. This match was less than 5 minutes long, which was a disappointment. Having said that, Mysterio was carrying an injury so I suspect that it would have longer.
Winner: Samoa Joe (5 for 11)

We now get Drew McIntyre taking on Roman Reigns. McIntyre headbutts Reigns to get the advantage. After getting thrown from the top rope, Reigns makes his comeback with punches and kicks. Reigns then hits a Superman punch followed by a spear to get the win. The match was pretty decent.
Winner: Roman Reigns (6 for 12)

After a segment involving Elias and John Cena, we get Batista taking on Triple H in a no holds barred match with Triple H's career on the line. During the match they use a tool box, chains, pilers, a steel chair, the steel steps and a sledeghammer.  Also during the match, Triple H pulls out Batista's nose ring and spears him through the German announce table. Batista manages to hit the Batista Bomb but Triple H kicked out. Triple H powerbombs Batista onto the steel steps followed by a Pedigree, but Batista kicked out. In the end, Ric Flair arrives and gives Triple H another sledgehammer. Triple H then hits Batista with it then hits another Pedigree to get the win. The match was ok and this was the longest match on the show. I really think it could have been shorter, especially when it involves two guys that are round 50.
Winner: Triple H (7 for 13)

We now get the end of an era as Kurt Angle has his farewell match against Baron Corbin. Angle hits a overhead belly-to-belly suplex and 3 German suplexes in the early going. Angle goes for the Angle Slam but Corbin gets out of it and hits Deep Six for 2. Angle hits the Angle Slam but Corbin kicks out. Angle then applies the Ankle Lock but Corbin manages to send him into the corner. Angle goes for the moonsault but misses and Corbin then hits End of Days to get the win. The match was very short but it was quite good.
Winner: Baron Corbin (7 for 14)

The penultimate match is for the Intercontinental Championship as Finn Balor in Demon Mode challenges Bobby Lashley. Balor goes after Lashley before he gets hit with a spine buster. When Balor starts to get back into it, Lio Rush distracts him allowing Lashley to spear him off the apron to the floor. In the end, Balor powerbombs Lashley then hits the Coup de Grace to get the win and become the new Intercontinental Champion. The match was quite good.
Winner: Finn Balor (8 for 15)

After R-Truth and Carmella do a dance break, we finally get our main event. A triple threat match between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and "The Man" Becky Lynch for both the RAW and Smackdown Women's Championships. Ronda is absolutely dominant to begin with and later on, she has Charlotte in an armbar over the ropes. Becky hits her with a dropkick, and Ronda lands brutally on the floor. Other highlights during the match include: Becky putting Charlotte in the Dis-Arm HerCharlotte hitting a double natural selection on both women; Becky hitting a Bex-ploder from the top rope on Charlotte; and Ronda putting both guys in an armbar. Charlotte manages to put Ronda in the Figure 8 but Becky breaks that up with a leg drop from the top rope. After Charlotte gets throwin onto a table in the corner, Ronda goes to hit Piper's Pit on Becky. However, Becky reverses it into a crucifix pin to get the win even though Ronda's shoulder goes up during the count.

I thought this was a good, fun match although the ending was slightly botched. From what I read, it seemed that it was a mistake on Ronda's part. The fact that WWE didn't make a big deal of it after the match does seem to prove that. As for Becky, I guess she will defend both belts for the foreseeable future.
Winner: Becky Lynch (9 for 16)

I thought that, despite a few surprising results, Wrestlemania was quite a good show. The main criticism of it is that it is far too long. This finished at after half past midnight local time and that's insane to me. I get that it's their biggest event of the year but hopefully they will make it a bit shorter next year.

NXT TakeOver: New York Review

NXT TakeOver: New York took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Every Championship is on the line and the card looks awesome so, let's take a look.

The first match is for the NXT Tag Team Championship as the team of Aleister Black and Ricochet challenge The War Raiders. There's a lot of respect shown by both teams in the early going and it becomes a very back and forth contest. There was a cool bit where Ricochet catches Hanson in mid air and hits him with a fall away slam. War Raiders come close when they hit a clothesline/German suplex combo but Black breaks up the pin with a double stomp from the top rope. Black hits Rowe with the Black Mask, which is followed up by a shooting star press from Ricochet; but Hanson pushes Black onto Ricochet to break up the pin. In the end, War Raiders hit Ricochet with Fallout to get the win. Afterwards, they all shake hands and hug.

This match was fucking phenomenal with so many amazing spots. Black and Ricochet teaming up seemed like an unusual choice but they work really well together and we get to see them again when they challenge for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania.
Winners: War Raiders (1 for 1)

Next is a match that I was really looking forward to watching: Matt Riddle challenging Velveteen Dream  for the North American Championship. Early on, Riddle tries to go for submission moves such as the Kimura but Dream manages to avoid them and get the advantage after stamping on Riddle's bare feet. Riddle gets back into it and continues to get Dream to submit. Dream hulks up and goes on to hit the Dream Valley Driver. However, when he goes for the Purple Rainmaker, Riddle tries to put him in the Bro-Mission then almost wins it after hitting the Floating Bro. Riddle then puts Dream in the Bro-Mission. However, Dream manages to reverse it into a roll up and pins Riddle to get the win. Riddle's reaction was like: "What the fuck?! I lost?!", which was awesome then he fist bumps Dream as a sign of respect.

This was a really good match and I felt sorry for them as they followed a phenomenal tag team match. However, they managed to keep the crowd engaged and I really hope they have a rematch in the near future.
Winner: Velveteen Dream (2 for 2)

We now get the United Kingdom Championship match as WALTER challenges Pete Dunne. Early on, Dunne punches WALTER. He doesn't take that well and hits Dunne with 2 brutal Flair Chops to get the advantage. He goes on to almost fold Dunne in half with a Boston Crab. Dunne uses his agility and speed to get back into the match and comes close after an impressive sit down powerbomb. After Dunne damages WALTER's fingers, he hits a rolling crucifix pin for 2. Dunne hits the Bitter End but WALTER kicks out at 2. In the end, Dunne is sent across the ring with a top rope power bomb. WALTER follows that with a splash to get the win and end the 685 day reign of Pete Dunne. This was a really good match between the two. I'm about 8 weeks behind on NXT UK so this was the first time I've seen WALTER and I'm quite impressed. He is quite agile for his size and his Flair chops are so brutal, he should be arrested for attempted murder. Dunne has had an amazing reign and hopefully it means he will get called up to the main roster.
Winner: WALTER (3 for 3)

The penultimate match is for the NXT Women's Championship as Shayna Baszler faces the challenges of Bianca Belair, Kairi Sane and Io Shirai  in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Highlights of the match include: Sane catching Belair's air kiss and throwing it for Shirai to bat away; Baszler using Belair's hair against her; Belair pressing Shirai onto Baszler and Sane on the outside; and Belair hitting the KOD on Baszler. Shirai hits the Asai Moonsault on Baszler but Sane breaks up the pin; then Sane hits Baszler with the Insane Elbow and Shirai breaks up the pin. Belair hits an awesome KOD on both Shirai and Sane; but when she goes for the cover, Baszler grabs her and gets her to tap out to the Kirifuda Clutch to retain the Championship. Even though I was surprised that Baszler won, I thought this was a really fun match.
Winner: Shayna Baszler (3 for 4)

The main event is a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match between Adam Cole (Bay Bay!) and Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship. After some back and forth, Cole hits the Last Shot to the back of Gargano's head to get the first fall. Cole almost gets the winning fall after another Last Shot but Gargano manages to just kick out. Later on, Gargano manages to get Cole to quickly tap out to the Garga-No Escape to take it to sudden death. Both guys come close to winning, a highlight being Cole hitting a beautiful straitjacket German suplex and then a Canadian destroyer.  The match goes to the outside and Cole hits a Fairytale Ending onto the Spanish announce table. Gargano puts Cole in the Garga-No Escape but the rest of The Undisputed Era interfere and take out Gargano when the referee gets "accidentally" knocked out of the ring. Gargano manages to just about survive and takes out The Undisputed Era. Cole seizes on the opportunity and hits another Last Shot but Gargano amazingly kicks out. In the end, Gargano avoids the Last Shot and gets Cole to tap out to the Garga-No Escape and become the new NXT Champion. Afterwards, Candice Le Rae and Tommaso "Fuckface" Ciampa come out to help Gargano celebrate.

Wow. Just wow. The first two falls were really good and I was surprised for a minute that Cole tapped out, making it a tie game. I then realised that he did it to save energy. The last 5-10 minutes of the match were absolutely brilliant with Cole and The Undisputed Era throwing everything but the kitchen sick at Gargano but nothing they did worked. I got quite emotional when Gargano won and I think the last time I felt anything like that was when #DIY won the NXT Tag Team Championship at TakeOver: Toronto. I'm so happy for Gargano winning and completing his redemption.
Winner: Johnny Gargano (4 for 5)

NXT TakeOver: NewYork was an amazing show. All of the matches were really good with 2 of them being contenders for Match of the Year. I feel sorry for Wrestlemania as I do not think they can top this.

WWE Wrestlemania 35 Preview

The Showcase of the Immortals, Wrestlemania 35, will be taking place this evening at the Metlife Stadium in New York. There are a...fuck load of matches on the card and we will see the women main event the show for the first time. So, let's take a look.

Women's Battle Royal
Confirmed participants so far are: Dana Brooke, Mickie James, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, Asuka, Carmella, Naomi, Lana, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Zelina Vega and Nikki Cross. This should be a quick yet match and I'm going for Asuka to win.

Adam Cole (Bay Bay!) vs Johnny Gargano
2 Out Of 3 Falls Match for the NXT Championship
I am really looking forward to this match and I'm really torn on who I think will win. This was supposed to be Gargano challenging Tommaso "Fuckface" Ciampa, which changed due to Ciampa's injury. I suspect that Gargano was going to win that to complete his redemption. Will WWE stay with that plan? I think that Gargano is ready for the main roster however, I feel that he will win and get called up next year.

Along with Wrestlemania, I will be going through up to 10 hours of wrestling this weekend, so it will take me a few days to go through it all. I hope you all enjoy the show.

WWE Fastlane 2019 Review

The final PPV before Wrestlemania, WWE Fastlane, took place on Sunday 10th March at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The match on the Kick Off Show is Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev taking on Big E and Xavier Woods from The New Day. Rusev distracts Woods, giving Nakamura a chance to kick him in the head and get the advantage. After a few minutes, Woods hits a missile dropkick to Rusev and he is able to tag in Big E. Despite some interference from Lana, The New Day get the win after hitting Up Up Down Down on Rusev. I thought this was a pretty fun match.
Winners: The New Day (1 for 1)

Fastlane starts with Hollywood Miz and Shane McMahon challenging The Usos for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. Miz and Shane get the upper hand in the early going before The Usos hit Shane with a brutal clothesline. Shane manages to hit a DDT, giving him the chance to tag in Miz. Miz eventually manages to hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Jimmy Uso but it only gets 2. In the end, Miz attempts a frog splash but Jey puts his knees up and pins Miz to get the win. Afterwards, The Miz beats the fuck out of...wait, no. Shane beats the fuck out of The Miz. Sorry, I was so expecting Miz to betray Shane, it threw me off that it was the other way round. This was quite a good match. I'm quite surprised that Shane turned heel, especially as The Miz has rarely been a babyface. Even though I'm not a big fan of Shane, I'm looking forward to their match at Wrestlemania.
Winners: The Usos (2 for 2)

The next match is Mandy Rose challenging Asuka for the Smackdown Women's Championship. Sonya Deville distracts Asuka long enough for Mandy to hit a knee to the head and get the advantage. Mandy goes for a lifting butterfly facebuster but Asuka gets out of it and hits a knee. Asuka reverses an Irish whip and Mandy stumbles on the ring apron that Sonya had moved onto the ring. Asuka then hits a kick to the head to get the win. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere but it was a generally decent match.
Winner: Asuka (3 for 3)

Next is Kofi Kingston and Kevin Owens challenging "The New" Daniel Bryan for the...wait, sorry. It turns out that Vince McMahon is fucking with Kofi and it's actually a handicap match with Kofi taking on The Bar with Xavier Woods and Big E barred from ringside. Understandably, Cesaro and Sheamus beat the absolute fuck out of Kofi. Big E and Xavier do try to help but they're stopped by Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. In the end, The Bar hit the Double White Noise to get the win.

I seriously don't get the point of this match. The motivations for Vince doing this to Kofi has not been explained. I know he was doing the same in the unnecessarily convoluted storyline with Becky Lynch. However, he was at least justified in that because she attacked Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. With Kofi, Vince seems to be the biggest dick on the planet to him and it doesn't make any sense to me.

We now get our first RAW match of the evening as the teams of Ricochet and Aleister Black and Bobby Roode and Chad Gable challenge The Revival in a triple threat match for the RAW Tag Team Championships. The Revival early on to manage to isolate Ricochet and keep me down with the help of Roode and Gable. Eventually, Black is tagged in and he goes for the Black Mask on Roode but Scott Dawson stops it. In the end, The Revival hit Gable with a Shatter Machine to get the win. Afterwards, we get a brief brawl ending with Ricochet hitting a 630 Splash on Dash Wilder. This was a pretty good match.
Winners: The Revival (N/A)

We now get a Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship as Samoa Joe deals with the challenges of Andrade, Rey Mysterio and R-Truth. Highlights of the match include: Mysterio hitting R-Truth and Andrade with a double hurracarrana; Mysterio reversing a powerslam into a DDT; Zelina Vega hitting a super kick on R-Truth prompting Carmella to get involved; and R-Truth doing John Cena's moves. In the end, Mysterio tries to hit Drop the Dime on Joe. However, Joe avoids it and makes Mysterio pass out to the Coquina Clutch to get the wun. This was a good, fun match to watch.
Winner: Samoa Joe (N/A)

It's time for Sasha Banks and Bayley's first defence as Women's Tag Team Champions as they face the challenge of Nia Jax and Tamina. Nia throws Sasha into Bayley to get the advantage. After a few minutes, Sasha gets tagged in. In the end, Bayley manages to roll up Nia to get the win. Nia and Tamina don't take the loss well and beat the fuck out of Sasha and Bayley. Tamina, for some reason, decides to take on Beth Phoenix, who was on guest commentary. Even though Natalya comes out to help, Nia and Tamina beat the fuck out of them before they're stopped by the referees. Except for a really obvious botch, I enjoyed the match. However, this is the third match on the show that's had a post match brawl. I don't think that's really necessary.
Winners: Sasha Banks and Bayley (4 for 4)

Next is Kevin Owens challenging "The New" Daniel Bryan for the...wait, hang on. Mustafa Ali has been added to the match, making it a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. Highlights of the match include: Owens hitting cannonballs to Ali and Bryan; Bryan hitting Ali with a running dropkick, sending him to the outside; Ali hitting Bryan with a X-Factor; Owens hitting a Stunner on Ali; and Owens and Ali teaming up to take out Rowan when he interferes. Ali tries a springboard crossbody.  However, Bryan hits him midair with a running knee to get the win. Afterwards, we had more post match shenanigans with Rowan hitting Ali with a choke slam. This was a really good match and a joy to watch.
Winner: Daniel Bryan (5 for 5)

The penultimate match is between Charlotte Flair and "The Man" Becky Lynch. Charlotte mocks Becky while attacking Becky's injured knee. Becky sends Charlotte flying from the top turnbuckle to the floor then puts her in the Dis Arm Her. Charlotte gets out of it and puts Becky in the Figure 8. However, Ronda Rousey runs in and attacks Becky...? Wait, what? This means that Becky is facing Ronda and Charlotte for the RAW Women's Championship at Wrestlemania. The match was ok but the ending was bizarre to me. I get that Ronda has always wanted to face Becky but by her actions, she made things harder for herself at Wrestlemania, It's not a normal thing for a heel to do.
Winner: Becky Lynch (6 for 6)

After a segment involving Elias, Lacey Evans, Randy Orton and AJ Styles; we get our main event. The Shield teaming up for the final time to take on Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley. After a few minutes, McIntyre kicks Seth Rollins in the ribs to give his team the advantage. Later on, they wear down Dean Ambrose. Ambrose hits a springboard clothesline on McIntyre and he gets to tag in Roman Reigns. When Rollins, Ambrose, McIntyre and Lashley start fighting amongst the crowd, Corbin and Reigns continue the match in the ring. Corbin hits End of Days on Reigns but the Shield manage to break up the pin. The match goes to the outside and The Shield triple power bomb McIntyre through the Spanish announce table. They then beat the fuck out of Corbin and hit a triple powerbomb on him to get the win. This was a really good match and I'm saddened that this will be the last time they will wrestle again. They have collectively done so much with them all becoming WWE Champion at one point. Hopefully, Dean Ambrose will come back in the near future and we will see The Shield wrestle again.

I thought that Fastlane was a mixed bag. Most of the wrestling was good but the event was far too long. Along with the matches, four of them had post match beatings; we had 3 musical segments with Elias and the usual catwalk bullshit with Lacey Evans (fucking wrestle already!!) I worry about Wrestlemania this year. With the pre-show, it was 7 hours last year. Along with the Takeover the night before, that comes to ten fucking hours! I like wrestling but the main reason for me not publishing my reviews weeks after the events is that it feels like such an effort. I'm quite looking forward to watching it, I'm just not looking forward to reviewing it. Hopefully, WWE will start to reduce the running times of their shows in the near future.

Lo-Down Wrestling Awards 2018

A little later than usual but it's time for the Lo-Down Wrestling Awards. 2018 was a pretty decent year with some really good wrestling. So, let's look at the winners with a couple of honorable mentions.

Feud of the Year
Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso "Fuckface" Ciampa (January - August)
A feud that started in 2017 has blossomed into one of the most engaging feuds in years. They had some tremendous matches with the feud going in a direction that no one was expecting.

PPV of the Year
WWE Evolution
It's insane that WWE didn't promote their first all women's PPV more than their latest Saudi Arabia propaganda event. Despite that, Evolution was hands down the best event of the year with some really good matches.

Most Surprising Moment of the Year
Daniel Bryan Announcing His Return to Wrestling
In one of the most surprising events in wrestling history, Daniel Bryan, who retired in 2016, announced his return on the 20th March. Bryan went on to have amazing matches and ended the year as WWE Champion.
Honorable Mention
Tomasso "Fuckface" Ciampa Winning the NXT Championship, NXT 24th July
I don't think that many people saw Ciampa as NXT Champion. Despite that, the match between him and Aleister Black ended in shocking fashion with Johnny Gargano inadvertently helping Ciampa become NXT Champion.

Douchebag of the Year
WWE
Whilst WWE have done some good things, their decision to host the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia in the midst of a major diplomatic incident is the reason they've won this. They chose money over the murder of a journalist and I find that deplorable.

Moment of the Year 
Smackdown Women Invading RAW, RAW 12th November
I'm not a big fan of tit-for-tat brand invasions but this one worked as it wasn't expected. From Becky Lynch having Ronda Rousey in the Dis Arm-Her in the locker room to the Becky standing tall with a bloodied face in the crowd. Unfortunately, Nia Jax breaking Becky's face meant that we didn't have the Becky vs Ronda match at Survivor Series but we're now getting it (kind of) at Wrestlemania.
Honorable Mention
Johnny Gargano's Heel Turn, NXT 24th October
Over the last year, we saw Gargano slowly go to the dark side. It culminated in possibly the best ending of NXT I've ever seen. We had Nikki Cross announcing Black's arrival, Black killing the useless security guards and Gargano superkicking Black out of nowhere.

Worst Match of the Year

I thought the WWE World Cup was ok then the final just went off the rails. It turned out to be a complete joke, and it blew my mind that Shane McMahon thinks it's ok to replace an injured Miz and then go on to win.

The Usos
This has been a difficult one to pick as no team has really stood out. However, The Usos have been pretty consistent over the year. They started the year as Smackdown Tag Team Champions and have always been involved in the title picture.

Most Improved Wrestler
Buddy Murphy
Before February, the main thing Buddy Murphy was known for was being the boyfriend of Alexa Bliss and I was surprised that he turned up in the Cuiserweight Division. However, he has gone on to have some great matches culminating in winning the Cruiserweight Championship in his home town of Melbourne, Australia. Murphy is the best thing in 205 Live right now and long may that continue.

Match of the Year
"The Man" Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair, WWE Evolution
This was a tremendous match that should have been the main event. It was thoroughly entertaining with some amazing spots.

Female Wrestler of the Year
"The Man" Becky Lynch
Even though her heel turn didn't quite work out, Becky Lynch has gone on to one of the highlights of WWE and is going from strength to strength.

Male Wrestler of the Year
Seth Rollins
No one really stood out in the male division. However, Seth Rollins has been consistent in his matches and is one of the best performers in the company right now.
